Federal Agents Raid Universal HMO
Federal agents bearing subpoenas raided Universal Health Care on Thursday morning around 8 a.m. and made most employees leave, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
The company, declared bankrupt a few weeks ago, was turned over to the Florida Division of Financial Services for liquidation as of April 1. About 800 employees are being laid off, and around 100,000 Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries enrolled in Universal plans are affected.
The Office of Insurance Regulation has accused the company of financial mismanagement, including fraud and diversion of funds. No criminal charges have been filed.
