Medicaid Loses in Effort to Block Doctors' Suit

Florida Pediatrics Society has won a round in its suit against the state Medicaid program, News Service of Florida reports. The suit says that years of low physician pay has hurt both children and their caregivers.

The Agency for Health Care Administration had argued that the Affordable Care Act made the lawsuit moot, in that it essentially doubled the pay rate for Florida primary-care doctors who accept Medicaid. But a federal judge noted that the extra money has not yet been paid, and in any event the higher pay rate is only for two years, 2013 and 2014.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
