Tears, Cheers: It's a Match!

Gainesville Sun

After the grind of medical school comes the joyous day when doctors-to-be find out where they will complete their training. That day was Friday.

Florida International University had a lot to celebrate: Every student in its first-ever medical-school graduating class made a match, and the good news for patients is that more than half the 33 graduates plan to go into primary care and one-third will stay in Florida for their training, the Miami Herald reports.

Meanwhile, at the University of Central Florida, only two students out of 35 weren’t matched with a residency program, the Orlando Sentinel reports. All 127 students at the University of Florida were matched, the Gainesville Sun reports.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
