A federal grand jury in Miami has subpoenaed financial records from ophthalmologist Salomon Melgen as part of its investigation into New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez, the Washington Post reports.
The South Florida eye doctor, who is originally from the Dominican Republic, contributed about $700,000 to Menendez and other Senate Democrats last year. Menendez tried to help Melgen when federal health-care officials said he overbilled the government for care at his clinic.
