Private Home Care an Elder Option
Private care homes could be a popular alternative to nursing homes in the next decade, especially with more people with geriatric care experience retiring to Florida. The cost is one advantage, as is the more personalized home atmosphere. However, the private care homes are the only long-term elder residences not currently regulated by the state, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. While the model could be a “win-win” for elders and caregivers, it also needs to be watched closely to prevent abuse, said Larry Polivka, an aging studies expert at Florida State University.
