Vaccines Reduce Flu, Hospital Trips

Vaccinations are being credited for a drop in the number of flu cases and hospital stays in the U.S. last year, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention analysis.  The CDC said the 17 percent reduction was the largest reduction in cases and hospitalizations since 2005, according to Reuters news service.  The 79,000 hospitalizations and six million reported cases of flu, however, highlights why more people need the vaccine, CDC officials said.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
