Florida wildlife officials have decided to change fishing rules for snook and redfish through 2019 due to widespread toxic red tide algae in the Gulf of Mexico.

Wildlife officials say the scallop population is rebounding following a bout of red tide in Gulf of Mexico off Florida's Panhandle.

Beginning July 1st, Florida’s state waters will be open for bay scallop harvest. This scalloping season will be twelve times as long as 2017’s, thanks to healthier scallops in the Gulf.

The Gulf County bay scallop season is now open to harvesters, after state wildlife officials postponed the season for about two months.
