Surgery Saves Tot With Brain Disorder

A Pasco County baby with a lesion on her frontal lobe who faced lifelong developmental disabilities is now thriving, three years after undergoing risky surgery at Miami Children’s Hospital, the Tampa Bay Timesreports. The surgery to remove the lesion carried the risk of paralysis, but the lack of treatment would likely  have left Hannah Rose Whaley with permanent disabilities. The family was referred to Miami Children’s because that hospital has a track record of about 300 operations like this.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
