Federal authorities are endorsing the construction of a spur that would connect central Florida's commuter rail, SunRail, with the Orlando International Airport.
Members of Florida's congressional delegation on Monday announced the approval of the project which could cost upward of $225 million.
The 5.5 mile east-west link would eventually connect the airport to the north-south running commuter rail system which started operating last year.
State transportation officials have the chance of applying for almost $75 million in funding from the Federal Transit Administration.
Orlando International Airport employs about 20,000 workers and another 100,000 people fly in and out of the airport.
