Screenings, Treatments Help Heart Defects

Several South Florida hospitals are incorporating the latest advancements in early cardiac screenings and treatment for children with heart disease, the Miami Herald reports.
 
Technology is making it possible for fetal heart rates can now be observed as early as 12 weeks, a time when the heart is smaller than a nickel, pediatric cardiologists at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood say.
 
At at Miami Children’s Hospital, surgeons are participating in a study of a new heart valve they have implanted in three young patients last year, the Herald reports.
