An inmate at Santa Rosa Correctional Institution was murdered in 2012 despite multiple pleas to guards and officials for protection, according to a Miami Herald investigation.
Hundreds of pages of court and prison records, crime scene photographs, video, an autopsy report and 77 audio interviews show that inmate Ricky Martin feared cellmate Shawn Rogers -- a man who called himself one of the most dangerous inmates in the prison system, the Herald reports.
Rogers was scheduled to go on trial this week, but it was delayed Monday in reaction to information reported in the Herald story. Rogers has asked for the death penalty, according to the Herald.
