Rehab Center Assault Points to Residents

Investigators want to question two registered sex offenders at an assisted living facility after reports that a 75-year-old woman was sexually assaulted, according to The Daytona Beach News-Journal.

For more than two weeks, police have unsuccessfully tried to conduct interviews with patients and staff as well as obtain records from the facility, the News-Journal reports.

It is not illegal for sex offenders to live in nursing homes, and nursing homes have no responsibility to notify patients that sex offenders reside in their centers, an Agency for Health Care Administration spokeswoman told the News-Journal. However, she did say that nursing homes must provide proper supervision for patients who are sex offenders in order to protect other residents, according to the News-Journal

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
