The company that provides health care in state prisons across Florida has replaced two of its top-level

managers following a $67,500 fine by the Department of Corrections for a variety of issues, including improperly distributing psychotropic drugs and mistreating infections, the Ocala Star-Bannerreports. Corizon Health Care has replaced its vice president overseeing the $229-million-a-year DOC contract, along with its chief clinical officer for the southeast region of Florida. DOC has already started looking for new vendors to handle health care at prisons; Corizon’s contract is set to expire in 2018.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
