Miami VA Healthcare System Chief of Staff Vincent A. DeGennaro gave up his medical license in New York in 2009, responding to allegations involving a Florida patient who died under his care, the Miami Heraldreports.
DeGennaro, who came to Miami’s VA in 2010, gave up his New York license and agreed not to apply for another license there rather than settle a professional misconduct charge tied to the 2003 Florida case, the Herald reports. The Florida Board of Medicine and DeGennaro reached a related settlement in 2008.
A public affairs officer for the Miami VA said in a statement that this case has no impact on DeGennaro’s ability to perform his responsibilities for the VA, according to the Herald.
The VA has come under fire recently over accusations of delayed care and patient deaths. Facilities across the country are being audited, including all five Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System facilities, the Pensacola News Journal reports.
