Hospitals Beefing Up Visitor Security

Tightened security is becoming the new normal at many hospitals in Southwest Florida, according to the Fort Myers News-Press. New screening rules for visitors at Lee Memorial Hospital and Gulf Coast Medical Center mean the hospitals have turned away a tiny fraction of people in the past year who tried to enter the facilities. Most of those turned away were on patients’ banned lists or were on Florida’s sex offender registry.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
