Fired VA Worker Files Whistle-Blower Case

An employee at the St. Petersburg Department of Veterans Affairs has filed a whistleblower complaint claiming he was fired in retaliation for pointing out problems at the busy claims office, according to The Tampa Tribune.

Javier Soto says he was fired for issuing reports on issues of fraud, waste, and abuse throughout the office and that the decision was made without consulting his direct supervisors or taking into account prior positive performance reviews, The Tribune reports.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
