Capitol: Compounding, Pharmacy Techs

Out-of-state compounding pharmacies will need permits if they want to do business in Florida, under a bill approved Thursday by the Senate Regulated Industries Committee.

Sen. Aaron Bean, R-Fernandina Beach, filed (SB 662) to increase standards for the pharmacies that create medications for patients who need drugs not readily available at the corner pharmacy, the News Service of Florida reports.

Also, a fight over pharmacy staffing levels may be cooling down under a proposed compromise in the Florida Senate.

It’s been two years since this battle between the Florida Retail Federation and The Florida Pharmacy Association was introduced to the legislature. But as WFSU's Lynn Hatter reports, this could be the year legislators settle the debate over the number of technicians pharmacists supervise.
