A diamondback rattlesnake bite required a record amount of antivenin for an 11-year-old Newberry boy  who was taken to UF Health Shands, according to the Gainesville Sun. As a Level One trauma center, Shands had the antivenin in sufficient quality to save the boy’s life.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
